Today we're chuffed to release a significant update to the MultiWalks experience. Here's what we have for you:
We're on Android as well as iOS!
Please tell your Android phone-using friends. MultiWalks is free via Google Play too! From the get go we've wanted to share the artists' walks with the Android as well as iPhone community, and our friends at Do Tank have sweated the small stuff to bring the best experience to Android. Do let us know what you think if you're an Android user.
Faster download and updates!
We admit it: the first iOS release of MultiWalks was kinda huge. We've now reduced the app size by a huge margin. It now takes a fraction of the time to download MultiWalks. You won't need to wait around or delete other content from your device.
New home page gallery!
We've totally redesigned the screen that shows you the walks you can select. Swipe or use the buttons to scroll horizontally to see walk images and locations. Press on an image to begin a walk.
The new design is backed up by watercolour map of Europe using one of the great tile sets you can enjoy, and use for free in your own projects, at http://maps.stamen.com
Films are now hosted online!
If you like, you can revisit all MultiWalks films from your desktop at https://vimeo.com/user22444936 - and you can find, like, and chat about the growing film collection. You can even put something in the tip jar if you really like a particular film :)
If a walk has an introductory film, this is still fully contained inside the app so you can get your bearings on a neighbourhood without needing Wi-Fi or a data connection.
And: a new walk is open! "In Her Footsteps" by Margarida Paiva
In the centenary year of Norway becoming the first nation where women could vote, "In Her Footsteps" focuses on women fighting for the rights of the needy, and holding communities together, in the neighbourhood of Grønland in Oslo. Artist Margarida Paiva reveals stories of people prepared to cross boundaries, speak up and take huge risks to help their communities.
This new walk now sits alongside the other app walks: Food 4 Thought - Ali Zaidi (Lower Marsh / Waterloo in London, UK); Between Faces - Shwan Dler Qaradaki (Grønland and Bjørvika in Oslo, Norway) and Let's Go Out - CollettivoFX (Reggio Emilia, Italy) all of which can be accessed remotely as well as on the spot.
Stay tuned for more MultiWalks action
